Investigation of Defects in the Cathodic Protection System of Fajr Jam Refinery

Today, most refineries and gas booster stations inn Iran and even in foreign countries face the problem interference an lack of proper distribution of protection potential.  In this case, the output current from the rectifiers is very high and in some cases will lead to damage to them. In other words, the consumption current is much higher than the cathodic protection design flow. Unfortunately, in most refineries and gas pressure stations in Iran, by increasing the output of trans rectifiers, an attempt is made to properly distribute the cathodic protection potential. In addition to high energy consumption, this mode will intensify current interference and the emergence of acute areas of over protection and under protection.

The cathodic protection system of Fajr Jam Refinery has been designed and implementation by t he Korean Company Deylam. After some time of its operation, due to many problems, it was not possible to use the cathodic protection system properly. In this project, the cathodic protection system of Fajer Jam Refinery was reinspected and also, by conducting field experiments, the causes of problems, its solutions and modifying the design of the cathodic protection system were presented.

The services description of this project was as follows :

 1- Investigation the causes of current interference and improper distribution  of cathodic protection potential

2- Providing methods to prevent current interference and improper distribution of cathodic protection potential

3- Investigation  the current state of cathodic protection of to refinery and comparing its deviation from the design

4- Determining the causes of deviation from the design situation

5- A practical solution to maintain the desired conditions

6- Documentation and reporting

7- Presenting seminars and answering questions
