Hydro-aerodynamic laboratory of the Research Institute for Subsea Science and Technology was established in 1984 at Isfahan University of Technology. The towing tank facilities of this laboratory was designed and developed by Dr. sh. Mansoorzadeh, under a contract with ministry of higher education. . The laboratory was aimed to conduct quasi-field tests with the aim of establishing a national laboratory in the field of marine and aerospace sciences. This laboratory covers an area of 14 x 110 meters.
This laboratory is used to study the solution of basic and practical problems in the design of vessels, submarines, aircraft, offshore structures and aviation structures.
A towing tank equipped with a planar motion mechanism (PMM) and a wave generator together with an open and a closed wind tunnel have created unique simulation facilities for testing a variety of fixed and moving models.
Also, the depth of about 2.2 meters of the tank has provided an excellent opportunity to test structures and equipment with great depth.
The laboratory is equipped with the following facilities :
- Towing Tank
-
Wedge Wave Maker
-
Planar Motion Mechanism
-
Open & Closed Wind Tunnel
-
Pressure Chamber With a Range of 0-15 Atmosphere
-
Modeling Workshop
This towing tank has many applications in science and technology related to the marine industry, the most important of which can be mentioned as follows:
- Model testing of surface vessels (boats, ships, etc.)
-
Modeling of submarine vessels (submarine, AUV, ROV, etc.)
-
Testing of offshore structures (oil rigs and rigs)
-
Investigation of the effect of waves on the motion of vessels and marine structures
- propeller tests
- Other hydrodynamic tests
- Training of students in different fields (mechanics, civil engineering, shipbuilding, marine industries)
The water tank with dimensions of 108 meters in length, 3 meters in width and an average depth of 2.2 meters is constructed in area of 1600 square meters.
Towing Tank :
- Equipped with two servomotors with a power of 15 kW to adjust the speed with great accuracy
- A minimum Speed of 0.05 meters per second
- A maximum Speed of 6 meters per second, can be increased to 8 meters per second
- Speed accuracy 0.1% of rated speed
- Ability to carry equipment and passengers
- Equipped with mechanical and electric brakes
- Equipped with dynamometers of 3 to 6 degrees of freedom
- Equipped with data acquisition system
- Equipped with CCTV cameras to record the movement of the model and send images wirelessly to computers located in the control room
